WIE Week Celebrations

The WIE (Women in Engineering) society of IEEE JMI is a special affinity group of IEEE JMI and has always strived for Women empowerment. It is a professional organization dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists. Its efforts have been huge till date to advocate women in leadership roles in IEEE governance and career advancement for women in the profession. WIE has now come a long way in an attempt to further work for the strengthening of the women. Like every year, WIE society of IEEE JMI organised the WIE week from 16th August to 18th August 2011.
Organised in the Faculty Of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, the week featured a wide variety of events which saw massive participation from all branches and years, specially the first year students who participated in large numbers. GROUP DISCUSSION : The group discussion consisted of communication skills, knowledge and ideas regarding a given subject, capability to co-ordinate and lead, exchange of thoughts & addressing the group as a whole. It brought about 35 participants together to talk about various social issues and the view point of younger generation on them. It gave everyone a great opportunity to put forth their views and ideas on current social issue and inculcate the spirit of public speaking.
XPRESSIONS : The event offered a creative way to express thoughts, which comprised a slogan and poster making competition. An amazing way to express views about a certain given topic in one single phrase. The event was a success with the slogan "
SPELLING BEE :The SPELLING BEE tested everything the participants knew (or thought they knew) about spellings. The Spelling Bee was saw large numbers with more than 80 students turning up.
FACE PAINTING : Face Painting put forth an innovative way to express ideas by painting your friend’s face. Yes. Their faces.
EXTEMPORE : Extempore -- on the spot speaking competition. The event was aimed at assessing the communication skills & command over the language of participants. The participants got an opportunity to display their oratory skills in front of judges to take away the pride & glory is an interesting impromptu event that tested their spontaneity. 25 participants spoke their minds and let everyone knew what they thought.
MOVIE TRIVIA : "If you are a Moviephiliac...This is so for you". This was promised for the event which did not let anyone down. The event saw the biggest numbers with over 240 people turning up, which exceeded all expectations. The event consisted of 5 rounds of pure 'filmy' which was fiercely contested,
The WIE event was concluded with a workshop on some basic physics concepts that was organised for the students of Jamia school. The topics explained were complete with presentations, demonstartions and worksheets to further expand upon the concepts. The workshop received an overwhelming response with a very positive feedback from the students and professors alike.
The whole week was awash with various activites that kept the organisers and the students on their toes. The week was a success and IEEEJMI hopes to organise more such activities in the near future. |
