The present Counselor of our IEEE Student Chapter is Dr. (Mrs.) Mini S. Thomas, Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. She obtained her B.Tech from the University of Kerala and M.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, both with Gold Medals, and did her Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
She has taught in Regional Engineering College, Calicut, Kerala and Delhi College of Engineering, New Delhi, before joining Jamia Millia Islamia. She also won the prestigious "Career Award for Young Teachers" from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in the year 2000 for her career achievements.
Dr. Thomas has designed a new M.Tech course in "Electrical Energy System Management" which has started in Jamia this year. A state-of-the-art SCADA Laboratory has come up under her supervision at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, which would enable students to learn online Monitoring & Control of a process, Power System in particular. She also developed an elective course in "Energy Management Systems" which focuses on Power System SCADA for final year Electrical Engineering students.
Dr. Mini S. Thomas has been an active member of IEEE from her student days, and currently she is the Joint Secretary of the IEEE Delhi Section and also the Chairperson of the Student and Educational Activities Committee of the Delhi Section. She has organized a number of international conferences and is presently the Organizing Secretary of a series of Information Technology Workshops being organized in Jamia Millia Islamia as part of Curriculum Development
