IEEE JMI kicked off the New Year by organizing its first General Body Meeting (GBM) of the year 2010 on the 21st of this month. In attendance were our Branch Counselor; Pof. Mini S. Thomas, the chairperson, the vice Chairpersons, the General Secretary along with the joint Secretaries. The agenda of the meeting was to introduce the newly elected executive committee-2010 and to discuss the annual plan of activities for the year 2010 with the student members.
The proceedings began with each ExeComm member introducing himself and his responsibilities to the student members. Prof Mini S. Thomas then took the opportunity to interact with the members and reiterated the benefits enjoyed by a member of the IEEE and encouraged them to involve themselves more in the activities being organized by our student branch.
This was followed by our chairperson unveiling the Annual plan of activities for the year 2010 and the dates for the first event of the year i.e. the Farewell to the outgoing ExeComm were announced as 29th January (subject to change in accordance with the JTA strike). After this a series of proposals were kept in front of the student members for their feedback. These included a workshop on Web Development and Photoshop as well as the discussion on the Annual Trip (18th-21st February, 2010).
The meeting also became a perfect platform to introduce IEEE JMI’s monthly technological newsletter; ‘BLIMP’ (An initiative by the publications team) to its members and contributions in the form of articles for the same were invited from them. In totality the meeting accomplished its aim of taking the level of interest of the members towards the society to the next level and in sync with IEEE’s mission to advance innovation and technological excellence for the benefit of humanity.
