I feel really ecstatic as I write this article! IEEE JMI has come back from the Delhi AGM with flying colours. And guess what we won 5 awards there!! Here is the list of individuals who made us proud;

Prof. Mini Shaji Thomas won the IEEE MGA Innovation award for the year 2008 for innovations in student activities in the IEEE Asia-Pacific region (IEEE is the largest Technical Professional Organisation in the world). She also won the Outstanding Power Engineer Award 2008 of the IEEE Power & Energy Society Delhi Chapter. Dr. Mini is the student coordinator of IEEE Asia Pacific region. Mini is responsible for guiding the IEEE programs to improve the professional and personal development of the engineering students of Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Prof. Mini is currently the Public Information Officer of Jamia Millia Islamia, one of the prominent Central Universities of India, after completing her tenure as the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Jamia.

About Mini S. Thomas

Dr. Mini has been endeavouring to achieve the highest level of excellence in the field of Electrical Engineering by taking a lead in introducing innovative methods of teaching and research incorporating the latest advancements in this field from all over the world. It was through her efforts, for the first time in India, a SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) laboratory and a Substation Automation Laboratory were established in Jamia. She also introduced a new M. Tech program.
She has established her stamp of ability, both in academics and professional carrier, and has become a leading engineering professional. She often participates in workshops and meetings in different parts of the world.
Mini obtained her B. Tech from Kerala University, M. Tech from IIT Madras, both with gold medals, and PHD from IIT Delhi, all in Electrical Engineering. She taught in REC Calicut, and in Delhi College of Engineering, before joining Jamia. She has received the Career Award for Young Teachers from AICTE and many distinguished awards from IEEE.

Dr. Mini has won the Outstanding Volunteer award of IEEE Asia _Pacific in 2005 and the Outstanding Branch Counsellor award (International ) in 2002. She is the founder Chairperson of the WIE affinity group of Delhi section which won the Outstanding affinity group of the year award in 2005 and also the Outstanding student affinity group of the year w award for JMI WIE student affinity group.
