‘Adam’and the forbidden ‘Apple’
India does its wonders again in the world market. Under the ‘Made in India’ label we have yet another awesome invention which might soon make the Apple iPad go obsolete even before it is able to establish itself!
Yes, the ‘Adam’ is yet another evidence of the ingenuity that has been produced by the IITs and the Management colleges. ‘Adam’ is an innovation of the Hyderabad based Notion Ink. which has been found by 6 IIT graduates and an MBA graduate. The hardware company is a great testimony of the genius that is being created by the Indian Institutes. Adam has generated enormous buzz on tech websites and gadget blogs ever since an early prototype was first demonstrated at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show), the world's largest consumer tech trade show in January this year. This gizmo is an answer to all those who believe that India is only a software superpower and has not been much active in the hardware world. The specialty of the technology lies in the ability of the tablet to incorporate two ground breaking technologies- nVidia’s Tegra 2 chip and a Pixel Qi Screen. When these two technologies combine what you get is a performance and battery life that is twice better than that of iPad. The gadget has the ability to play high definition videos and Flash on the web browser. It has the abilities of a computer with the power consumption of a cellphone. The Pixel Qi screen allows it to be viewed easily in sunlight like an e-reader. Also with the backlight of,the tablet delivers battery life of upto 5 times between charges. The tablet gives a real competition to the Apple’s iPad as it has Google Android 2.1 compatibility and also has the ability to run Chromium and Ubuntu while the iPad is compatible with only the iPhone OS. nVidia’s Tegra 2 Dual core ARM Cortex A9 processor enables it to have a screen resolution of 1080p as opposed to iPad’s 720p screen. Also the Adam has a camera while the iPad lacks it, also the unlike iPad Adam has the ability to play Flash 10.1 for great browsing on mobile devices with multi touch support and voice commands. The Adam has 3 USB ports, HDMI and an expandable SD card slot whie the iPAd has no USB support. The Adam will be released in two avatars- one with a transreflective Pixel Qi screen and the other with a LCD display. The tablet encompasses many innovations from the $100 OLPC ( one laptop per child) project.
