Celebration follows victory and this is what that was recently witnessed by the IEEE Student Branch of Jamia Millia Islamia.
The Certificate distribution ceremony was organized in presence of Kerala Section Mr.Gopakumar, who currently works as a scientist at VSSC. The ceremony began with a welcome address by Dr. Mini S. Thomas, Branch counselor IEEE JMI and the R10 SAC. She emphasized on how the hard work of the coordinators and the volunteers had helped in the success of ENCOMIUM ‘09. She also praised the devotion of the organizers that they had put into organizing the event which saw the participation of over 800 students from about 40 colleges.
The welcome address was followed by an address by Mr.Gopakumar who talked about his experiences as an IEEE member. He enlightened the students with his journey in IEEE, how not even being a teacher by profession, he had taught a lot to students through the responsibilities entrusted in him by the IEEE. Plus he elaborated on the role he played in the forming of the Kerala Section which is now among the most active IEEE sections in India.
Towards the culmination of the event, it was time to cheer the hard working organizing team for all the hard work they had done. The certificates to the coordinators and volunteers of various events were distributed by Mr. S. Gopakumar. Certificates were also awarded to the Publicity, Infrastructure and Corporate teams.

ENCOMIUM 2009: A Huge Success

The IEEE Jamia Millia Islamia Student Branch organized the 9th edition of its annual technical cum cultural fest ENCOMIUM-09 “An Intellectual Odyssey” on 3rd and 4th of October, 2009. The event captured the imagination of youth across the NCR with over 15 inter college events organized where in students could compete with probably the best in the region. The two day extravaganza gave ample opportunities to budding engineers as well as management aspirants to showcase their talent in events like the Technical Paper Presentation, Business Plan competition and many more. All this interspersed with scores of informal events like who dare wins, futsal, street play, junkyard wars etc.
The festival started by an inaugural ceremony which was chaired by Prof. Syed Sikander Nabi, Dean, Faculty of Engg. & Tech., JMI and inaugurated by Mr. Gursharan S Bhatia, CEO T&D, India who was kind enough to grace the occasion as the chief guest. The chief guest and the Dean released the 2009 edition of IEEE JMI’s annual tech-magazine, ENCORE.
The inaugural was followed by an informative lecture on ‘SMART GRIDS’ by Ms. Anamika Bhargava who is currently working with GE Energy as Regional Commercial & Marketing Director- T&D for India Subcontinent, GE ENERGY T&D. The delegates from IEEE (Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers), Delhi section also attended the event.
The very right time to do a little Encomium ( Latin word meaning the praise of a person or thing ). Although this submission comes about five months after Education Times, the educational supplement of The Times of India, published this article on the 4th of May, 2009 , there is nothing as being "encomiastically" late. Ankur Rustagi and Himanshu, both students of Electrical Engineering and active members of the IEEE branch who passed out of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia this year gave IEEE JMI a reason to be very proud of them. Ankur Rustagi was also the Technical Head in the Execomm 2008 of the IEEE JMI.
This happens to be the online link to that page in the Times of India e-archives.
Cheers guys! Well done.

WHAT started as an international competition for Jamia Millia Islamia University is all set to take shape as an important milestone in the field of networking system. Two students from Jamia’s engineering department participated in a competition that was launched by the Stanford University, California, in 2007. Stanford took the initiative to develop a platform which could provide hands-on access to networking internals and network programming to students all over the world. The university named this initiative the Virtual Network System (VNS). With VNS, students write software that interacts with their own topology of routers and servers.
