IEEE JMI: Online - Officially the Best

Daring ideas are like chessmen moved forward. They may be beaten, but they may start a winning game. And one such idea, and its ensuing success is what brings me to write this article today.
IEEE Region 10 recently held an IEEE website competition, and IEEE Jamia Millia Islamia: Online has been declared the runners-up in the competition, shellacking all other participating branches from all over the region 10 and emerging as decisive winners. And the icing on the cake: IEEE JMI: Online has been declared the best IEEE student branch website portal all over India, making us swerve ahead of others by leaps and bounds. As the podium finishers in this competition, IEEE JMI has been awarded a cash price of US$ 350 apart from the certificates.
And the one person who deserves special mention for all these honours is Imran Ali, batch 2011, Electronics and Comm. Engineering, currently the General Secretary of the branch, for it is only because of his vaulting ideas, undeterred hardwork and staunch dedication that IEEE JMI is on this proud pedestal today. It was his determined focus and belief in his own abilities that has made IEEE JMI extend its boundaries over to the world wide web with such great effect. His single minded dedication and selfless efforts have helped IEEE JMI put yet another feather in its cap. And we cannot overlook the student members of the branch, who, with their supporting ideas and unwavering interest, have made IEEE JMI leap across to the online world so seamlessly.
But the work does not end here, for this success pushes us to strive harder and motivates us to push ourselves against our limits; selfless, determined and ambitious, for there is no palm without pain, no throne without thorn, no glory without gall and no crown without cross. The man who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones, the small stones are done, its time for the mountains.

I feel really ecstatic as I write this article! IEEE JMI has come back from the Delhi AGM with flying colours. And guess what we won 5 awards there!! Here is the list of individuals who made us proud;
Mini S. Thomas(Branch Counselor) IEEE MGA Innovation Award IEEE Power & Energy Society Outstanding Chapter Engineer Award Outstanding Branch Counselor Award
Abhisek Kar(Vice Chair, 2008-2009) J.K. Pal Memorial Award
Hamza Tahir Khan(Chairperson, 2009-2010) Oustanding Volunteer Award
Here is a couple of photographs from the same event. Savour them!
Prof. Mini Shaji Thomas won the IEEE MGA Innovation award for the year 2008 for innovations in student activities in the IEEE Asia-Pacific region (IEEE is the largest Technical Professional Organisation in the world). She also won the Outstanding Power Engineer Award 2008 of the IEEE Power & Energy Society Delhi Chapter. Dr. Mini is the student coordinator of IEEE Asia Pacific region. Mini is responsible for guiding the IEEE programs to improve the professional and personal development of the engineering students of Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Prof. Mini is currently the Public Information Officer of Jamia Millia Islamia, one of the prominent Central Universities of India, after completing her tenure as the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Jamia.
For all those who are disappointed that they missed this opportunity, here is a slight breather. This was an April Fool's joke played by the IEEE EXECOM on the members. Hope you had a good laugh! We sure did.
IEEE in collaboration with IEEE Jamia Millia Islamia gives you the opportunity to attend the IEEE R10 Student Congress to be held in Singapore in the month of July. All you have to do is to register and fill up the form here(you must be registered and logged in to be able to access it).

Here is another first from IEEE JMI. GOLD(Graduates of the Last Decade) has come up with this cool video where they have taken the initiative to circulate the IEEE 125 logo across the Globe. IEEE JMI is the first branch from India to have submitted its video. Have a look at the video below!
Now for some credits. The initial idea was sent to us by an alumni member Megha Joshi(Thank you ma'am). The filming of this video has been done in the Main Campus of Jamia Millia Islamia right in front of the Ghalib Statue. The students appearing in this video(as they appear) are Yasser, Shams, Ainuddin, Ankit, Yash, Nadeem and Saurabh. The filming crew constituted of Hamza, Imran, Ankit, Emam, Fahad, Faiz and Samsul.
