On 4th March IEEE Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) was opportune enough to host an inspiring lecture by Dr. Kiran Bedi, First women IPS officer of India on the occasion of WIE day “Vivre”. The show was also presided over Prof. Sikander Nabi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Mini S. Thomas Students Activities Chair, Asia Pacific Region and other members of the Faculty as audience it saw a participation from not only JMI but also other colleges like NSIT and IGIT from Delhi section.

The afternoon began with a welcome of Dr. Kiran Bedi  by Dean, Faculty of Engineering and technology, JMI who highlighted Dr. Bedi’s achievements in a nutshell which left the audience kept grasping for more and also sowed the seeds of inspiration.

Prof. Mini S. Thomas, a pioneer in bringing up of IEEE’s activities at all levels, welcomed and enlightened everyone with the activities of IEEE- JMI and how the student branch has come so far establishing itself as one of the exemplary student branches of IEEE and the Best WIE affinity group worldwide. A chronicle of events and achievements of the WIE was presented by Ms. Sonam Kathpalia, Chairperson WIE and Ms. Sadaf Khurshid, Vice Chairperson WIE-JMI.

It was followed by the much awaited speech by Dr. Kiran Bedi. Her mind stirring lecture instilled an euphoric sense of responsibility and a thirst to do something for the betterment of the society.

 

She spoke about the prime importance of youth in a nation’s development and embellished each moment with experiences of her own. Her mantra to be the Numero Uno in life seemed to touch everyone’s heart. She emphasized the role of youth in nation building and how today’s young generation can prove to be a boon for the society by devoting oneself to community service. Her life’s examples were very well received by the students who were aspiring to be like her. Her speech was punctuated with applauds every second moment as she kept on invigorating the minds of the youth with thought provoking ideas.

She also unveiled the second edition of the newsletter of IEEE-JMI, “Carousel” on the momentous day which was followed by an interactive session.

Dr.Kiran Bedi gracefully answered each question pertaining to the very aspect of student life, community service and roles of youth in today’s world. She and obliged every member who had something to ask. In all it was a splendid show put up by the student organizers of IEEE-JMI WIE affinity group under the able guidance and earnest efforts of Prof. Mini S. Thomas and with her eminence presence as the branch counselor the student Branch can aspire to be one of the best of it kind.
